{weekend note}

One of my favorite novels of all time, and I'm being completely serious, is Jane Eyre. I have such a fondness for the novel that I read it multiple times a year [I have never watched the film and don't plan to]. I respect Brontë's depiction and development of Jane as a passive, naive girl who learns from her experience. By the end of the novel she has grown from her experience and becomes a strong woman. These are qualities and characters we should learn from. Do you have a novel that you absolutely love?

"I had not intended to love him; the reader knows I had wrought hard to extirpate from my soul the germs of love there detected; and now, at the first renewed view of him, they spontaneously arrived, green and strong! He made me love him without looking at me." - Charlotte Brontë from Jane Eyre

    Here's the deal: I was never required to read Jane Eyre and I never opted to because... Well... It's old. It pisses me off when I can't understand the older English dialect. But I'd also never got a synopsis from an adoring (& fun) fan. So maybe free this semester is over I will see if I can tackle/ enjoy it.

  3. That's so sweet of you. Thank you so much for the shout out! Brontë will now definitely be on my list of classic writers. I'm reading Tolstoy's Anna Karenina at the moment :)
