I think what drew me towards Howe's work was the uniqueness of using a book in a different, yet still creative form. She doesn't change the relationship between art and patron, but merely explores a different avenue. One would say, I'm a fan of an extraordinarily distinct installation. My inspiration, however, doesn't just focus on the piece selected, but also Howe-the artist. Her work as a creative facilitator has gave me a new element of appreciation for the discipline of art. Art can be used as a mean of connecting, communicating and understanding by establishing a personal voice. My inspiration isn't as outstanding as Howe's work and pieces, but her act of giving is what motivated me to give something too.
I chose to make this double chain necklace after making this bracelet a few weeks ago. Based on everyone's enthusiasm, I thought I would make a second and give it away to one lucky winner! One layer, gold-for the pages. One layer, black-the words. Like Howe, I have used a book in another creative form. I've made a second

Love how this piece inspired you to create something! While working on my Art to Inspiration post I fell in love with her entire portfolio, but Unashamedly Seasonal is my top favorite piece.
ReplyDeleteLove the chain! I love the shape of Voices Overlaid.
ReplyDeleteOOOH OOH! Pick me! Jo's work is so thoughtful - I love the "Can you hear me now" - I think it begs us to think about words and writing in terms of communication instead of our tech-heavy world of text messaging and cell phone use.
ReplyDeleteSupal, you are always surprising us with your approach...the hallmark of a truly creative, inspired individual. I love the idea of 'giving', whether it be in creating the art, sharing a vision, or creating something with your hands and finding it a now loving home. Bravo, once again.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a creative idea! My favorite is snatched conversations.
ReplyDeleteI've seen her pieces on another blog as well.. Thank you for sharing Is not it remarkable how we can create art out of art? I've just stumbled across your blog and I really like it... unique and creative...

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I love how unique your response to this post was. I think that creating something to share (as a response to this work) is such a great testament as to how much Howe's work inspired you!
ReplyDeleteEchoes of Fragrant Voices is a win in my book. Such creative work. I love that you made your giveaway product. Such a personalized touch! You're always so creative, Supal. I love it!
ReplyDeleteYou never cease to surprise me Supal. What a great idea you had there! I really liked the "Distortion of Time" piece by Jo Howe. Hope you are having a great day!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Colette- "Distortion of Time" was my favorite as well!! It seems like it was a visualization of the "rabbit hole" that I feel lucky to find myself falling down when I get lost in a good book. :)
ReplyDeletelove the going in circles piece- completely lovely.
ReplyDeletegreat giveaway lady!
I love "internal dialogue" It's almost the way I see myself, as if staring into a mirror. Serene and composed on the outside, but ten million thoughts and ideas going at warp speed inside my head. Love Jo Howe's work, thk u for introducing me to this artist =)
ReplyDeleteHow cool! Love your thinking behind this one!
ReplyDeletelove a delicate subject! :)

I love Unashamedly Seasonal for it's irony - a tree made of paper that was once a tree. Plus it's pretty!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love, "order" I feel connected to it in the sense that everything in life has an order whether we choose to believe it or not.. I feel that is what the image portrays to me... that everything has a time, a place, and... a order.
ReplyDeleteI like distortion of time.
