five essentials : keeping cool in the heat

The obvious answer to beating the heat is to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water and consume electrolytes. I like to freeze bottles of water and as the day goes by, bits of it will melt away providing you ice cold water throughout the day. Try to avoid alcohol and caffeine as they lead to dehydration. This includes those sweet coffee drinks!

looser and cooler clothes

I wrote a post here on how to dress for summer. It's important you stick to simpler fabrics like cotton and stay clear of synthetics. Try to wear looser clothes so the air flows through.

spray bottle

If you're spending the day outside at a park or something then keep a spray bottle on hand with water in it. Spray on your hands, feet and neck. 

hats or lettuce

If you're wearing a hat, pour some ice cold water on outside. Keeping your head cool is important and will also keep the rest of your body cool. Something I learned from Jeopardy is that many football players during the summer place leaves of iceberg lettuce on their head to cool their body!

refrigerate the creams

Refrigerate lotions and toners during the summer. Lotion will remain cool, but especially your foot cream for the hot Florida nights. I've done this when I lived in the Middle East.
