vogue : 4th of july wardrobe

I never have a consistent 4th of July plans. I always start out at a picnic, then somehow at someone's house for drinks, and end up on a boat or at Disney watching fireworks. I'm all over the place and I have to make sure I am able to dress for all occasions. I thought I would go over some of the outfits I've been eyeing for the red, white and blue.

Board shorts, to me are heinous, but this is done so chic-fully and with grace. Pops of color are in this summer, so dress the part with some seersucker patterns! If you want to go high heels, go for platforms instead! They will be more comfortable and loving to your toes.

I know this is a bit warmer for weather here, in Florida, in the summer, but I thought I'd use this same outfit but go shorter. shorter sleeve and shorter hem and you've got yourself a summer, patriotic, chic outfit. It's perfect for that transition from daytime to nighttime.

When I think 4th of July, I think of stripes. Probably because they usually come in navy blue. Pair with a big floppy hat and a nude face and you've got the perfectly relaxed summer picnic look. Though, I don't think the hat would translate well for the evening, so I suggest having firecracker red lipstick and a hair tie for a top bun on hand!

Maxi dresses are my favorite! They can be worn in almost any season, for any occasion and at any time of the day. I'm a firm believer that every girl should have a go-to maxi, and if you've got one then it's time for you to go with it. Grab a hat for the day time then toss it in the backseat when you're heading to your evening parties.

Any plans for 4th of July? And more pertinent question, any idea what you're wearing?

  2. The second is a perfect outfit for somewhere a bit more chilly, like San Francisco! When we saw the Golden Gate Bridge fireworks in May, I wore a parka. Yikes!

  5. I think I'll be wearing something comfortable, since I plan on eating lots and lots of delicious ribs and BBQ! Oh, and I'll have red lipstick on too. Seems fitting.

Love the yellow top + shorts combination. I bet high-waisted shorter shorts (like 3") would look great too!

  6. Always love a bit of navy/white/red/yellow! And love pink peonies blog :) 4th is my anniversary - trying to figure out what to wear still depending on what we do. It's been so hot - but I've got to go nautical somehow. Hope your having a great Monday and week!
