I'm really craving my own space now. A place I could call my home. I don't think corporate housing, dorms and apartments are cutting it really. To satisfy my dreams, temporarily, I've compiled a round up of inspiring entryways and thoughts I'd put together a five essentials post.
raised table
The raised table or a sofa table is the key element to establishing the style and mood for not only the entryway, but for the rest of the house. You can find more rustic pieces at vintage shops or garage sales. One that I'm loving recently is this piece from Ikea!

lighting
Lighting is necessary for the foyer. Especially when you have guests arriving and leaving the home in the evening. I like to stick with a small hanging lamp or some mood lighting with a table lamp. Try to select a metal based lamp or a bright color because it will play as the accent piece.
mirror or artwork
For a narrow entryway, either lay or hang a mirror. It will make the room look bigger. When you're not too concerned about size, a great way of adding color [and an ideal way for making a room look inviting] is hanging some artwork.

storage
I like to keep a small tray or plate on the table top for my keys, sunglasses and any other daily necessities. If you have a two tier shelving table like the Ikea one I linked, then you can add some baskets to store any wellies or slippers [for when you go to pick up the mail]!
decorative accents
This is when you can get creative. Framed pictures, candle votives, little trinkets from your travel can add personality and bring your style together. Instead of purchasing pieces, try to pick up pieces from little hole-in-the-wall shops or when you're traveling.

How timely; I'm currently in the process of scouting pieces for our entryway. We live in a condo, so the actual entry is admittedly teensy. There, I'll just have some artwork (to cover the ugly fuse box), and a small stool which will come in handy during boot season -- all those laces and zippers! I'm also in love with this console table from West Elm. Since we live in an open concept space, it'll go just off the entry in the dining area. That's where the tray for keys will go, along with our "bar" accoutrements.
ReplyDeleteI love all the personality in your last image. Since I aim for simplicity, I sometimes look at my spaces and think that they need something a little extra - but what? Those lamps and stools are like a great pair of earrings and a belt. Finishing touches that deliver plenty of visual interest. Thanks for always posting such lovely things to look at. (And for always having a shout out to peonies in there!)
i am OBSESSED with that pink parsons.
ReplyDeleteI don't have an "enterway" per se, just a small hallway leading to the bedrooms and living room. However, if I DID have one, it would definitely include something similar to that gorgeous pink table. Wow!

I'm actually re-thinking our foyer table right now. The table that's there is a table that my dad and I built together, but I wanna move it upstairs to where our mini library is. Great tips! I'm really login the zebra bench under the console table...it's a great idea, and offers seating, in case you need a spot to sit and put your shoes on.
ReplyDeleteI love foyers and the first picture is fabulous and my style! Hope your transitioning well and exploring everywhere!!

I'm in love with that oversized mirror!! I think that'll be a must-have someday when I have a real entry way to decorate :)
