guest post : halle of delicious duds
west elm inspired silk pillows

As I move to Europe and get settled at St. Andrews, I will be absent from 6 September to 21 September. Luckily for you [and me] I have some great blog friends who have offered to take their time to share a little inspiration on c&é.

Today I have Halle of Delicious Duds and she has some of the most amazing DIY projects! Since I always do some kind of jewelry, I thought it was appropriate to host Halle on the blog to change things up.

Hi everyone! I'm Halle from Delicious Duds, and I'm so excited to be guest posting today while Supal is settling in at grad school.

As the new season rolls around, I'm craving change everywhere. On my search for updated home goods, I stumbled across graphic these West Elm pillows and fell in love -  I think they would add a perfect bit of texture and color for fall!

However, $40 per pillow is a little steep for a girl on a budget, so I decided to DIY my own.

Here are the supplies I used:

{materials}
large silk scarf with large animal print {horses!}
small throw pillow
fusible iron-on tape
small towel

{tools}
scissors
iron

First, I draped the scarf over the pillow and cut around the edges, making sure to leave enough material for the seams.

I cut the second scarf piece, using the first as a size guide.

I then laid the towel over the scarf pieces and ironed over the towel, using lots of steam.

The two scarf pieces were placed on top of each other, front sides facing in. I then placed the fusible tape between the top edges of the scarves, and gently ironed {using the towel} to create a seam.

I did the same with each side as well.

Finally, I turned the pillowcase right-side in.

I gently inserted the pillow, and finished the final seam by folding over the clean edge and securing with fusible tape.

And the final product, in action! I really loved how it turned out.

Thanks again to Supal for letting me guest post while you're away! Visit my blog for even more DIYs {and other fun stuff too}, or connect with me via Twitter. Thanks for reading!

  1. This is beautiful, and such a great idea! I love that you used fusible tape -- no sew projects make things so much less intimidating. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for silk scarves the next time I'm near a consignment shop.
