I was introduced to the beautiful marriage of chicken nuggets and honey. Quite a sophisticated palate, I must admit, for a young teenager. I often translated the rule of sweet mixed with savories in my dishes and enjoyed the challenge of ingredients. Though I wouldn’t dare say that basil is entirely savory of an herb, it’s just something that I wouldn’t necessarily associate with desserts.

It’s the simple ingredients, like basil, that adds an element of sophistication to dishes. Especially this dessert. The sweetness of the roasted peach accompanied with the aromatic basil marries the rest of the trifle. It’s a simple summer dessert, perfect for a hot afternoon, and the little added sophistication is just a bonus that inspires you to continue in that endeavor of sweet-savory goodness.
