Having these two months off, I've spent most of my evenings relaxing and casually reading. My laundry list of books I've been wanting to read is finally getting use, but of course, I'm constantly adding to it. I've been thinking about finally getting settled down and spending a Wednesday or Thursday evening with the girls sharing some literary wisdom and discussing characters and themes. A bit of inspiration here for a book club...
Currently, I've been quite fond of reading essays. Right now, George Orwell's and Edward Said's. They blend a healthy mix of politics, emotions, curiosity and philosophy. Some new ones on the list include Orange is the New Black, Zealot, David and Goliath, and Freedom. What would you suggest?
I love serving something simple and light. You don't want to get too carried away when you're having a casual night in. Try prosecco or champagne with just a bit of St. Germain. It's a fruity and flirty drink!
I like to serve spreads with an assortment of nuts, cheese and fruits. These three cheese platters are my favorite combinations, though I'm open to more suggestions! And if you're looking for something with just a bit more effort try these butternut squash-cranberry-goat cheese crostini, mozzarella-basil-nectarine stacks, or sundried tomatoes-olive-goat cheese palmiers.
Since it's a casual evening, try a mid- or low-bun for the hair with a cozy pair of your well fit skinny jeans and a cable knit with light jewels.
I like to provide my friends with a little keepsake from time-to-time to remember the moment we spent together. I would go with a cute, delicate journal where the reader can jot his/her thoughts down to share at the next book club gathering.
Any suggestions for the book club?
Have you ever hosted one or are you a bookworm like me and itching to host one yourself?
