bit of life : 25 random facts about me

{25 things about Supal of chevrons & éclairs}
After sharing, rather exposing, a bit about my thoughts and interests, many of you have inquired to know a bit more about me. It’s true that I try to stay behind a sheer curtain here on c&é. But lately, many of you have reached out to me either via email or twitter and it has been nothing less than lovely to meet you… and so I think it’s rather appropriate that we acquaint ourselves a little further, shall we?

{one}
My middle name is Janak. It’s my father’s name and we take our father or husband’s name in the Indian culture to indicate who our family is.

{two}
I’ve been listening to Lourde nonstop as of late with Still Sane, A World Alone, and Team on repeat.

{three}
I can’t listen to music when I’m working because I usually end up mentally choreographing a dance.

{four}
Yes, I’m a dancer. Do my thighs give it away? With classical as my background and still dance today, but not for performances.

{five}
I come off as very quiet, reserved and dainty on c&é. I’m actually quite silly, talkative, and often the center of attention.

{six}
English is my second language with Gujarati being my first, which I still speak everyday. I also speak Arabic {started learning in college and eventually studied abroad in Jordan}.

{seven}
Like a typical Indian girl, I play tennis and the piano. But quite fond of rowing since attending St. Andrews. Therefore, I’ve always been musically inclined and pretty athletic.

{eight}
Before starting grad school, I spent a couple months at home and drafted all my posts for the year I would spend at St. Andrews. Not a joke.

{nine}
I can give up sweets, but my heart is weak for french fries. Though I don’t like ketchup.
I also love chicken wings.

{ten}
I prefer beer over a mixed drink or wine or champagne.

{eleven}
I absolutely despise driving and am not very good at parking.
It’s the very reason I want to ultimately settle in a city.

{twelve}
Anyone close to me always end up calling me “Sups” pronounced “soups”. Primarily because I have a habit of giving nicknames to friends and family. Just something endearing?

{thirteen}
The one place I want to visit in the world is Istanbul. I think it’s the perfect medley of European and Arab culture that draws me to it.

{fourteen}
I prefer backpacking on my own. There’s the introvert side of me peeking out.

{fifteen}
I post a lot of blush and other varieties of pinks, but my favorite color is a deep purple.

{sixteen}
Even though I come off as pretty tough and confident, I’m very sensitive and emotional.

{seventeen}
I hardly ever wear dangly earrings. Always studs and mostly of the diamond or pearl variety.

{eighteen}
I own one pair of jeans that I probably should get rid of now. While on this subject, I don’t own sweatpants/track bottoms.

{nineteen}
Just like my fondness of cooking, my love for fashion and design peaked after college.

{twenty}
I love early mornings.

{twenty-one}
I never leave home without applying mascara and a tinted lippy. Even to the gym, I kid you not.

{twenty-two}
I read a lot, but always have difficulty getting through novels. So, I prefer history books.

{twenty-three}
I get horrible neck cramps from the weight of my hair.

{twenty-four}
I’m left handed. Though my right side is dominant when I play sports.

{twenty-five}
I’m a clean freak and take freak to a whole new level.

  • Hahah, this is great! No jeans/sweats? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised 🙂 Hmmm .. fun fact: I learned to knit in September and knit an entire blanket from September – December — it will eventually get to the blog!

    • oh can’t wait to see it! I have no patience for knitting and so I’m always envious of people who do it.

  • I agree with Monica…no sweats?! My fun fact is that I worked serving meals in a nursing home for two years, and to this day I still cannot eat standard vegetable soup.

  • Oh I wouldn't be able to either… I can't eat pretzels because of greystone. I bet you liked fact #10 🙂

  • I was (pleasantly) surprised!!

    I have one pair of sweats for emergency but I wear A LOT OF JEANS. I cannot imagine life without the. What do you do when your legs aren’t waxed/shaved? (just curious!) – Fun fact about me: I can eat Pizza anytime of the day!

    • Ha! I do wear leggings and tailored trousers on occasion, but prefer the dress and skirt look. And I LOVE pizza! Do you make yours at home or do you have a favorite one?

    I just realized I had only one pair of jeans too…huh! I actually only have 4 pairs of pants. Way prefer dresses and skirts.

    • High five! I’m the same. I actually find empire waist dresses to be so comfortable (perfect for entertaining).

  • Sabbie Narwal

    Fun post! It’s uncanny how many of these apply to me but some are really surprising! I figured you love blush pinks, pearls, reading—you know, classic introvert stuff. Except you’re outgoing! Yay, for smashing stereotypes! Ok, fun fact about Sabbie: Even thinking about others dancing makes me nervous!! (P.s. I second that motion on sweat pants. Eek.)

    • I never really thought about it that way actually ha! I am quite the introvert, no lie. I think when I’m put in social settings is when I come off as someone who is not. Perhaps the excitement of being around people since I grew up with only a younger brother and often in too many extra curricular activities to host many friends over. And I’m glad you feel the same about sweatpants haha! x

  • Sunny

    I just found you and love your style. My Granddaughter reads your ?blog and got a dress much like the one above for a school function! So pretty! Your clothing and nail/lip colors are gorgeous, I love color! I too prefer wearing dresses, but I must confess, I had to buy two pairs of sweat pants to keep my knees warm, use in physical therapy, and hide knee braces, as I have RA. (Rheumatoid Arthritis). I wish the internet had existed when I was young, love history and learning of other cultures, I grew up in the 60’s in America’s Midwest and only learned of other cultures in school, so I love that Istanbul interest you! It would be fabulous to see! I like to be on my own, not that I don’t like people, just enjoy solitude and looking inward. I love to crochet and do needlework, but it’s limited now b/c of RA. Love to cook with my Granddaughter.

    • Hi Ms. Sunny! Thank you so much for the sweet, sweet comment. It means a lot to me that you can share this space and its inspiration with your grand-daughter. I’m so impressed by your enthusiasm to continue learning about new cultures and ideas and I will do my best to provide you with more here. Please extend my warmest wishes to your grand-daughter and hope you have a nice day too! xx

  • I love this post! It’s good to find out a little bit more about you, in non-creepy way of course! Random fact about me: I am very good at making up moves (some ridiculous ones) to songs’ lyrics – some of them are very literate, so I just look like a fool miming to a song and ‘dancing’ to the lyrics! PS. I’m also left-handed, which most of the people I know find it weird!

    • HA! Lyrical is a type of dance you know? I do that too, don’t worry. I may have to post a vide of some of my moves… !

      • I would LOVE to see that, please do! 🙂
