Maybe it’s watching my parents when I was younger, and still today, work very hard to make enough to fulfill all of my needs. Perhaps it’s the motivation and enthusiasm of readers, friends and family. Or just maybe being surrounded by strong, intelligent friends. I have grown up in a world where everyone is always striving for the best and nothing less.Up until recently I was very happy with life. I believed I could do it all and do it all well. But lately, I’ve been a bit distant from what is important. I’ve been so distant from my friends and family and entirely too focused on my goals. Pushing them away didn’t seem like that much of a problem until I realized I was missing time for myself and that time includes just them. I feel at times I get so involved myself and my surroundings that I forget about what matters most and that is something I must change. I guess it’s so simple to say “change is coming,” but really is it? I tend to forget and need constant reminding.

And so to set aside time to ponder is something I try to reinforce in everyday life from now on, which is what birthed this recipe. The final stage of preparation forces you to sit down and take in the moment as you pleat the dough into a small savory bun. It forces me to interact with my surroundings and live in the moment rather than moving forward.

So this recipe is here to remind you to slow down. Breathe. Accept.
