birthday countdown 2014 | live to create : teacup candle party favors { 5 days }

For an English tea party, I wanted to incorporate either tea or teacups in the party favor. Tea seemed slightly redundant, as the party was centered around consuming cups and cups of tea. Though after visiting a few vintage shoppes and flea markets I came across collections of beautiful old teacups that would make the perfect addition at any one of my friends’ home. And as you know, I’m one for sweet seasonal aromas and gentle colors and a candle embedded in a vintage teacup is chic and creative.
a selection of teacups
candle wicks available at craft stores
candle wax or old candles
a skewer either bamboo or metal
two sauce pans or a double boiler
scented oils like vanilla and lavender
food coloring is optional
Place the wick in the bottom of the container and tie the tail around the skewer to hold in place. If the wick moves you can add melted wax in the form of glue to the bottom of the metal object of the wick. Place the teacups on a tray for easing moving.
Fill one saucepan with a few inches of water and bring to a boil. Place the other saucepan inside, but be sure the boiling water isn’t overflowing. Place the wax in the small saucepan and reduce heat to a simmer. Allow the wax to melt, but not boil. Add a few drops of color and/or scented oils.
Take the wax off the heat and allow to cool slightly. Gently pour into the teacups leaving about a centimeter to the rim and making sure not to dislodge the wick. Set the tray aside and let it cool completely. Trim the wicks so they are 1 centimeter long.
