dinner and a movie {casablanca}

“Kiss me. Kiss me as if it were the last time.”

Casablanca has been one of those films that pinches my wanderlust nerve and appreciate the feeling of love. A film that I first watched in college with a few girls and a few glasses of wine and we couldn’t help but wish continuously that we were Ingrid Bergman. As opposed to a somber wartime film, Casablanca enchants you into a new, exotic land and so I thought I would host an evening just like that…

A story about Rick Blaine, played by the oh-so-handsom Humphrey Bogart, casted as an ex-freedom fighter who runs a nightclub in Casablanca during the early part of the World War II. Despite pressure from the local authorities, like Captain Renault, Rick’s establishment is becoming a haven for refugees looking to purchase illicit letters of transit that allow them to escape to America. One day Rick is surprised as he is approached by the gamed rebel Mr. Victor Laszio, played by Paul Henreid. and his wife, Ilsa (the stunning Ingrid Bergman). Rick’s true love deserted him when the Nazis invaded Paris. She continues to want Victor to escape to America, but now that she’s renewed her love for Rick, she wants to stay behind in Casablanca.

“You must do the thinking for both of us”

Rick is pressured by Ingrid to come up with a plan, which brings the story to a satisfying end.

And continue below as we take a culinary tour through Morocco…

“I’m saying this because it’s true. Inside of us, we both know you belong with Victor. You’re part of his work, the thing that keep him going. If that plane leaves the ground and you’re not with him, you’ll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life.”

To drink a ginger-grapefruit concoction mixed by Tasteseekers Kitchen
For appetizers I was thinking halloumi and quinoa koftas by Souvlaki for the Soul
The main would include a roasted chicken with dates, olives and capers from favorite chef, Ottelenghi.
Finally, for dessert an orange-chocolate tart made by happyolks.
