spicy cantaloupe cooler

On my most recent trip to India I took advantage of where I was in terms of gastronomy. My late grandfather, who was aging at the time, loves food. Now you know where I get it from. We spent mid-day lunches indulging on true Gujarati cuisine and by the peak afternoon hours I would peruse the street stands in a ricksha and bring back a local delicacy for my grandfather and I to share and enjoy. What I love most about India is the combination of sweet and spicy slash savory flavors. And since I wasn’t there for the infamous mango season, cantaloupe was the fruit of choice. We shared large cantaloupe wedges sprinkled with sea salt and chili powder and I couldn’t believe how delicious it was. And so this cocktail is an ode to those later {not so cold} winter days in India and my late grandfather for teaching me the importance of trying new and different foods.
