3 DIY Aztec Secret Indian Clay Face Masks for All Skin Types

Some people like serums and others like face oils, but I love a good face mask when I’m doing my skincare! If you ever find me in the beauty aisle, I’ll most likely be bolting towards the skincare right in front of the face masks. To be honest, I have two issues with face masks today: they are packed with fillers leaving little room for the powerful ingredients and they can be incredibly expensive. For someone who is a clean beauty enthusiast, I wanted to go out and find some economical face masks that also is made up of clean ingredients!

Introducing you to Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay, a 100% natural calcium bentonite clay that deep cleanses skin pores and removes dirt and impurities. Made from volcanic ash, contains over 50 minerals, Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is known to have a negative electron charge, which enables a face mask to successfully absorb all impurities making it the “world’s most powerful facial.” The negative charge also means you shouldn’t be using any metal items when handling the clay.

Aztec Secret Healing Clay Review

For my Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay review I would say that the product does work. It is incredibly important that it’s on your face no more than 10 minutes if you have sensitive skin. My skin was left clean, vibrant, and soft! I’m going to continue using the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay masks once a week from now on.

I spent a few months creating testing the DIY Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay masks I’m sharing with you. I had my friend Tiffany help me with her extensive knowledge of essential oils and formulated the mask with household ingredients.

My name is Tiffany and I write over at A Fit Mom’s Life about all things health and wellness.

One of my big passions is essential oils and natural ways to care for our mind and body.

Essential oils have been used since ancient times for all things from purifying temples and political buildings, to medicine. Some of the earliest records of essential oil usage date back to ancient Egypt, where recipes have been found written on the walls of buried temples.

Essential oils are fantastic for supporting skin health. In making a clay mask, a few great oil options are:

  • Frankincense: Frankincense supports overall skin health, helps reduce signs of aging, and can help even out skin tone.
  • Lemon: Lemon is known for brightening, and that includes our skin. Be cautious when using citrus oils topically. They can make the skin photosensitive for 24 hours. So if you plan to head outside, be sure to apply sunscreen.
  • Lemongrass: Lemongrass is fabulous for decongesting the skin, improving lymphatic flow, and skin circulation.

Quality of essential oils is as important as the oils you use. Our skin absorbs everything it comes in contact with; it’s not a barrier, it’s a carrier. This means using high quality essential oils that are pure and therapeutic grade is of utmost importance. If you’d like to learn more about incorporating oils into your beauty routine, I’d love to share more with you. You can follow me over on Instagram, read more on my blog here, and you can purchase the highest quality essential oils here!

So, here are the three DIY Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay masks! Please reach out via Facebook or Instagram if you try them out.

Lemongrass Clay Mask

Best used for clogged pores, blackheads, random breakouts.

Lemongrass and green tea are both powerful antioxidants that fight free radicals and encourages your natural collagen to heal itself.

  • 1 tablespoon Aztec clay
  • 1 tablespoons green tea, cooled
  • 1-2 drops of lemongrass essential oil

Combine the clay and green tea in a glass bowl. Mix with a silicone brush for about 5 minutes. If you need more liquid, add more green tea in 1/2 tablespoon increments. Then stir in 1-2 drops of lemongrass essential oil.

Frankincense & Rose Clay Mask

Best used for uneven and dull skin.

The combination of frankincense and rose balances the skin’s pH level, control excess oil, and has anti-aging effects.

Combine the clay and rosewater in a glass bowl. Mix with a silicone brush for about 5 minutes. If you need more liquid, add more rosewater tea in 1/2 tablespoon increments. Then stir in 1-2 drops of frankincense essential oil. Note: you can read more about the benefits of rosewater here.

Lemon & Honey Clay Mask

Best used for dull and dry skin.

Lemon and honey are filled with AHA’s and BHA’s to get rid of dead skin cells and clear up blemishes, which then brightens your skin.

  • 1 tablespoon organic honey
  • 1-2 drop Lemon essential oil

FAQ about Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay masks

Should I moisturize after? Yes! Make sure to tone with Cortas Rosewater and moisturize with either Cerave with SPF30 for day or Cerave lightweight hydrating formula for the evening.

Where do you get Aztec Secret Indian Clay? I got mine from Amazon here.

Help! My skin is red! This will happen as the clay mask is super powerful! It will calm down after about 20 minutes.

How often should I do the mask? Many people start off by doing it daily for one week then continue to mask once a week. I started off doing it 3 times in one week and now continue to mask once a week.

Why did you not use apple cider vinegar? ACV is extremely harsh and overwhelmingly drying on my skin. I prefer to share masks that have been tested!

Are essential oils bad for skin? They can be harmful if you apply them directly onto your skin! In this case, the clay acts as a carrier to help dilute them.

Will the clay mask clog my pipes? After speaking to our contractor, as long as a decent amount of hot water goes down the drain afterward, then it should be fine. You can rinse off the mask when you’re in the shower and if you’re rinsing down the sink then perhaps run the hot water from a full kettle down your sink. Otherwise, I’ve also washed my face in a bucket and watered the plants as volcanic ash is beneficial to soil!
